When viewing an Event, the sidebar blocks for "More in [Cal]" and "More from [User]" should be DB fetched for firstly upcoming events and then if the sidebar block is not yet filled, past events with the most recent first.
Users are not going to be interested in Calendar and User events from many years ago, but interested in either upcoming events or most recent events. We would want to promote upcoming events firstly too.
