This is because XF doesn't actually provide CSS for Select2 (the library that provides the searchable text box) so I've had to just pull in the default CSS for it. I've asked Russ for some help in making this a bit prettier though.

Any progress during the year?

Nope. It's difficult to come up with a one-size fits all light and dark styling for this so it has been low priority and probably something that will wait until XF itself has better support for it.

I'd probably recommend throwing something in to extra.less to deal with it.
