Ticket activity displays with a tickbox on /recent-activity/

FWIW, that's not a tick box. It's an icon. Thread news feed items display the same way in XF1, I believe.

How weird. I see it now in the source. An empty box icon that makes no sense to me. How do I get rid of it?

It's meant to be a piece of paper, I think. The template uses the same classes as the post one so gets the icon as a result. You can get rid of it by removing the class in news_feed_item_ticket_message_insert.
